Phillip Joel Urry (but goes by the name of Phil Joel) was Newsboys' bass guitarist, born in Auckland, New Zealand on January 5, 1973. Before being the Newsboys' bass guitarist, however, he was the lead singer and guitarist of the New Zealand band "Drinkwater". He joined the Newsboys in 1994 and left in 2006 to devote more time to family and "personal goals". He has also released 5 solo CDs. His wife is named Heather (who sings backup vocals on the song "Together" on Joel's solo album Watching Over You).
