This article is about the album. For the title track, see I'm Not Ashamed.
Not Ashamed is Newsboys' fourth studio album, released in 1992, and the first album to see wide critical success. It is also the first album that Steve Taylor produced. The most critically-acclaimed track on the album is "I'm Not Ashamed."
The album was nominated for a 1992 Grammy Award for Best Rock/Contemporary Gospel Album, but lost to Under Their Influence by Russ Taff. The music video for "I Cannot Get You Out of My System" was nominated for a 1994 Dove Award for Short Form Music Video of the Year, but lost as well, this time to "I Will Be Free" by Cindy Morgan.
This album increased the popularity of the Newsboys, leading to increased critical and commercial success in subsequent albums such as Going Public. John James provided the lead vocals on this album, as with the previous three and with the demo tape, "He's Coming Back." However, Peter Furler began sharing lead vocal duties with James on this album.
