Israel is the tenth song on Boys Will Be Boyz. It was released as a single which topped at #11 in the Christian rock chart.

Lyrics[]

Rise up and shine, oh nation of Israel.
Don't you know you are the apple of His eye?
Rise up in power, you chosen people.
It's time for you to take your wings and fly.
Rise up and shine.
Your hour has come.

Chorus:
End times are coming.
I know you'll go the distance.
End times are here.
I know you will not fall.
End times are coming.
I know you'll go the distance.
End times are here.
I know you will not fall.

All nations will sound up in these final days.
They come from everywhere just to see you fall.
Keep your eyes fixed upon the mighty Saviour.
Don't let your heart despair at all.
Rise up and shine.
Your hour has come.

(Chorus repeats three times)

Trivia[]

  • This song seems to strongly deny the covenantal doctrines of dispensationalism, in equating the body of Christian believers with the ancient nation of Israel. Despite this, the narrator still assumes the Second Coming is imminent, which also typifies dispensationalism. That being said, further albums which mention the endtimes instead either focus on failed endtimes predictions or otherwise criticize Christian apocalypticism. As this is the only song in the album with apocalyptic lyrics, which had typified previous albums by the Newsboys, this song is seemingly the final explicitly apocalyptic one in the band's discography.

Scripture references[]

  • The line, "Rise up and shine, oh nation of Israel," references Isaiah 60:1.
  • The line, "Don't you know you are the apple of His eye?" references the common phrase found, for example, in Psalm 17:8.
  • The lines, "All nations will sound up in these final days\\They come from everywhere just to see you fall," might be a reference to Revelation 20:8-9.
